I probably wouldn't be shooting less than 1/500 in that lighting, possibly more like 1/800 or 1/1000 with an ISO still under 400. I agree that the images aren't tack-sharp.

You have a gorgeous animal, though, cruff!

Can he do this?  Shorter shutter times with lower ISO and still expose right?  I don't think the aperture goes much bigger.  And if it did, it would induce other problems.
