I don't know if you paid attention to the post I replied to, but it was a photo of horse with lots of grass in front, badly separated from an uninteresting background.

but maybe you had some other professionals in mind?

I guess you know as well as me as most professionals even in motorsport uses the regular pro cameras and super teles, very often to get subject isolation.

But sure you can shoot WA and other effects as in the photos you showed. It does not mean that the ability isolate the subject from the background isn't a very useful tool in the box.
