FF - other aspects of IQ than noise
1

My first test to learn the Sony A7 FF camera to know, was to take a close look at the vignetting with very bright lenses compared to the A99. Sony promises much less vignetting with the new A7 24 Mp sensor - and boy, they are right! The difference between the A-mount Zeiss 24 mm f:2 and Zeiss 50 mm f:1.4 lenses wide open with the A7 vs the A99 is really an eye-opener! Everything with raw, since I never use jpg. Also, lens correction profiles were disabeled in Lightroom/ACR.

Both cameras were set to manual exposure and ISO, and the raw files were adjusted to the same color/tonal value in the middle part of the frame, to make this a pretty neutral reference for the corners. Such adjustment is needed, since Lightroom/Photoshop ACR handles files from these cameras differently at default settings - the A99 files shows up a bit darker and warmer.

Here are the results:

A99, Zeiss 50 mm at f:1.4, ISO 200, 1/125 sec

A7, LA-EA3 adapter (no mirror), Zeiss 50 mm at f:1.4, ISO 200, 1/125 sec

A99, Zeiss 24 mm at f:2, ISO 200, 1/60 sec

A7, LA-EA3 adapter (no mirror), Zeiss 24 mm at f:2, ISO 200, 1/60 sec
