I've read your posts.

The areas on which the lens focused are within the green box that you have drawn (lets assume your drawing is accurate) so the AF is working fine. How does the camera know you want to focus on the tap head or the mobile phone? By placing the AF box where you did and at the size you set it to you're telling the AF to focus on the area within the box, and it has.

You need to make the box smaller - a common misconception is that it will focus on what is in the middle of the box - it doesn't know to do this, in fact by not being specific and using a small box you're really telling it to choose whatever it likes within the box. I suspect it even tries to get as much of the box in focus as possible which would mean it's almost always going to choose the background.

Also remember that DSLR AF points are spots wheras CDAF AF areas are just that - areas.

Shiny surfaces like the tap are a nightmare for AF systems too, it's done quite well in this case.
