Upgrading from a D40 - need recommendations

Hey everyone,

I've had my trusty D40 entry level dSLR for about 8 years now, and its time for an upgrade.  I am definitely a beginner photographer, I've had a few classes and have self taught some, but I definitely don't have a need for some $2000+ camera with more bells and whistles than I'd know what to do with.

I use my camera primarily for action shots of my young kids (so fast capture/shutter speed is necessary), I also use it for our family portraits with a tripod, family vacations, basic scenery, etc.

I don't mind the size of the dSLR, although I've been reading a bunch on the new mirrorless technology, and I'm wondering if that might be the way to go.

Couple of requirements:

- on a budget, need to keep it at or under $500

- would love to have wifi connectivity for fast uploads

- high performance in low light

- quick shooting for action shots, as mentioned

Cameras I've been considering are the Sony NEX-3N and the Samsung NX300, but not 100% sold on anything at this point.

What would you recommend for me?

Nikon D40 Samsung NX300 Sony Alpha NEX-3N
