Yes and no

Re>Is it possible to connect a Canon 500D with a ZOOM H4?<

Yes and no.

Here's what to do.

Set up your camera the way you want, and place the Zoom mic / recorder where you want.

Turn on the Zoom and start shooting with the camera.

Make some sharp, short, sound, just like the clapper board you see at the start of some movies. A whistle works, or clap your hands, or tap a coffee cup with a pen, or...

Then photograph (take video of) the action that matters.

The sound will be recorded twice. Once on the camera, and once on the Zoom recorder.

Load the video, including the sound track recorded in the camera, and the sound from the Zoom, onto your editing software.

With most software you can move the Zoom sound track, so you can line it up with the in-camera sound. Just lay the burst or spike from the Zoom track over the camera sound track, which is already synchronized with the video.

Turn down the level of the in-camera sound, and edit your movie using the synchronized Zoom track for audio and the camera video for your pictures.
