Question about SPP Histogram behavior

while loving my new DP3 Merrill, I´m in a steep learning curve all things Foveon related since this is my very first Sigma Camera.

I´m running SSP v5.5.3 on MAC OS X 10.9.2.

When developing X3Fs in SIGMA Photo Pro once in a while I stumble upon an strange incident I have absolutely no clue about, as sometimes the histogram is showing very little to almost no values in comparison to the displayed photo. Here are some examples

Surely this is not the most dynamic scene, but visually still something above an almost empty histogram. No sliders had been adjusted here to display plain effect as of just opened this X3F in SSP.

Here´s another one, different capture, same "error", followed by picture of the same file on camera playback

So, the bridge shot´s histogram is showing at least some values in comparison to the fruit, but still very little to what the scene provides and also the camera LCD itself displays.

I did also try any possible combinations to color space, white balances, slider tweakings and the likes.

This occurs in, let´s say 4 out of 100 captures and those being effected by this scenario don´t look too great either when developed. e.g. 16bit TIFF export to Lightroom etc.

Does anybody experienced the same? May I simply own a faulty unit? Any help is highly appreciated!

Kind regards,
