General principle remains true: registration distance is important.

Jim is right. If the registration difference is slightly off then focus will only be affected at the extremes of infinity and close-focus. All focusing in between will act normal.

For example, if the adapter is slightly too long it simply becomes the world's shortest macro extension tube.
