That's correct on the E-M5. See page 86 of the E-M5 manual for a short mention of the setting, called 'Reset Lens':

Reset Lens: When set to [On], this resets the focus of the lens (infinity) each time the power is turned off.

I just tested the 12-40mm and 20mm with the setting on and off, and it works as described on both lenses.

Beware of this option with Sigma lenses, I prefer to change to off, as Sigma lenses even in the Art series will sometimes fail to be recognized if this option is ON (default). Happened first time I used my 60mm.

Maybe that's why I haven't seen this issue occur with my 20mm.  Thanks again all for the interesting discussion.
