But you can choose much faster shutter speeds, which should help a lot.

I also turn off image stabilisation for fast panning like that (I believe panning confuses the IS and makes things worse not better). Initially, IS does help... but once your panning and hand-holding technique reaches a certain level, I think you can get sharper photos with IS turned off.

But again, faster shutter speeds should help, if you want to turn off IS. (The faster your shutter speeds, the less IS is needed anyway).
