I went back to the original to check the colour.  The out of camera raw was at least two EV overexposed.  When I used Viewer to adjust the raw image to -2 EV the colour was pretty much what you see in the image presented.  That said, lowering the EV by 2 may affect the colour balance in the image or the saturation levels???

The skin on the heads and the fabric in the light colour clothing all have blown highlights and lost detail even after the adjustment.

When I produced the starting image for the clone work I used the Viewer image exported as a tiff file.  I don't recall doing much if anything that would have altered the colour but you are quite correct in thinking it looks a little cooked.  The underside of the fender just looks black on my monitor at home which I used an external calibration device to calibrate so I suspect that aspect should be ok.
