Just curious here - RE: Fuji's backing away from using NIKON flash

Hey gang...

Just thinking out loud here.  Remember when Fuji was producing the S1 - S5 Pro series?  Well, during that time period, I realize they were using Nikon bodies modified to Fuji's purposes and design.  However, what I enjoyed was the ability to use Nikon flash units.  What was it that prevented Fuji from continuing the ability to use Nikon TTL flash units on the latest X series releases?  Was it a licensing issue or what?

I know that with Micro 4/3, you can interchange Panasonic and Olympus flash units on either of those brand cameras since they have the same dedication (which is nice and provides for a half dozen choices there alone).

But to currently only have the Sunpak based Fuji EF-42 (plus one very small model), is really unsatisfactory.  I would have loved to be able to use the various Nikon flash units on the latest X series of cameras.  Or at the least, have Fuji (like so many other brands do), cooperate with Metz to have a few Metz flash units modified for Fuji TTL dedication.

I know some of this has been discussed in the past, but I'm curious as to why Fuji completely dropped the scenario whereby they used Nikon flash units.  The only thing I can imagine is that since they no longer have a contract to use modified Nikon bodies, that the agreement (and need) to use Nikon flash units went away also.
