Leica M9 vs Nikon D800 + 200f2: Engagement Shoot.. which do you prefer?

I use my Leica M9 for 95% of my photography including wedding photography but I sometimes wonder if I should still take the big bulky heavy Nikkor 200mm f2 AI-s (that fills a rucksack on it's own and weighs more than all my Leica gear put together!) for those 'Money shots'!

So.. I thought I would do a test.

I did a mock engagement shoot at Kenilworth Castle, Warwickshire and took along two models.

Here are the results. One page for each camera. Both cameras were shot in B&W JPEG mode.

To summarise the Nikon D800 is 36MP and the Nikkor 200mm f2 AI-s is one of the best Nikon mount lenses ever made. The Leica M9 is 18MP and I was using it again with some of the best Leica M mount lenses ever made - Leica Summilux ASPH 50 f1.4, Leica Summicron 90mm f2 and Voigtlander Nokton 35mm f1.2 ASPH ii. Both cameras shot at lowest ISO setting.

Which set of photos you prefer?

The 200f2 is a nice lens but I did not see that big a wow factor vs the Leica M glass. Personally I prefer the M9 rendering and now wonder if I really need to take the extra Nikon camera bag to each wedding (for the 200f2).

*The 200 f2 was stopped down to f4-5.6 for some shots as I was using strobes and don't have bin lin sized ND filters! (So bokeh not quite as creamy).
