Great compact camera
2

My Canon S105 was just not cutting it for me. It didnt have a place for my flashes, it lacked great ISO performance and it didnt have the kind of quality I was looking for. While it could fit into my pocket, it was just not cutting it for me. I saw the Canon EOS M for sale on B&H with lens for $350 so I got that deal.

There have been many reviews on the internet about how this isnt that great of a camera. However, I dont believe Canon created the EOS M for professionals to photograph a wedding or studio photographers. I believe this camera is more for the enthusiast who desires good image quality, but does not want to lug around the usual DSLR with all its lenses and gear.

I found the image quality to be of equal quality to any of the digital rebel cameras. I have used digital rebel cameras for years as travel cameras. I went to Thailand and many other nations with either a T2i, T3i or the 60D. I found those cameras took great pictures and the EOS M is no exception in that regard.

A lot of people have lambasted the little EOS M for its slow focus system, but I did not buy this camera to photograph anything more then personal pictures or travel pictures while on the go. I found the focus system to be ample for my needs. Clearly, this isnt the camera to photograph a fast moving event for pay, but its ideal for using it to travel.

There are many mirrorless cameras which beat the little EOS M, but they cant beat its price or the fact that all my Canon mount lenses fit onto the EOS M with the adapter.

The reason why I got this camera is because I wanted better performance then my little compact S105 was giving me and that is exactly what I got. I mainly use a Canon 5D Mark III, but when I am going into a nightclub or a social event sometimes its not practical to take the big camera. So I revert to my little EOS M which can fit any of Canon lenses.

My conclusion is this camera is not for a professional. If you were to only have one camera or were not invested into Canon lenses/flashes then maybe the Sony mirrorless models are for you. However, this is a great camera for personal and travel use. It is a nice camera for the Canon user who, like me, desires to have a smaller more portable solution when you cant take the big camera with you. It is much better then any of the G or S series cameras. While you cant pocket the EOS M, it is much easier to carry around then the larger Rebel APS-C or Full Frame variety. You dont look like a "pro" and so its great for being understated.

The biggest downside for me is the battery. If you are serious about the EOS M then you need to have another battery in the pocket.  Another big downside is no WIFI.  WIFI is important to upload pictures immediately to a phone to post on a blog or Facebook.  Its especially important for the enthusiast or personal camera.

I took this picture with my little EOS M and the lens was the Sigma 35mm 1.4 ART lens. No flash was used. The ISO ability is not quite that of the 5D Mark III, but much much better then my S105.
