Working Out For Camping / Hiking Trip To Grand Tetons & Yellowstone NP (A99 & A900)

Well as I get older things don't get any lighter (at least the things I want to take and use). I am now 70 years old now and planning a twelve day camping and hiking trip in the Grand Tetons & Yellowstone National Park with my son and two grandkids (I used to do this every year but now it's every other year now).

I plan to hike with the following camera gear (usually 4 to 8 miles round trip):

  • A99 w/grip
  • A900
  • 70-400mm G
  • 24-70mm f/2.8 ZA
  • 16-35mm f/2.8 ZA

The camera gear weighs 14.4 lbs (pack and gear combined weigh is 17.0 lbs).

I modified a backpack frame and securely mounted my camera pack on it. The frame carries the weight on my hips and the shoulder straps keep it up right.  I don't plan on overnight hikes but will carry water and lunch.

Today I walked three miles with my loaded pack and it was very comfortable. I will continue to do this daily until early June when I leave for my trip. I have several hikes planned and hope to bring back lots of beautiful images.
