I have never purchase photo editing software, but I would like to try it rather than using whatever comes free with a camera. I have a Mac computer, so what would work best with a Mac? I have read pros and cons for Apple's Aperture, Adobe's Lightroom 5 and Elements, but what works best with a Mac? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

To get started with photo editing something like Adobe PS Elements will be a good introduction.  It has a good RAW converter, good photo editing and good organizer.  It is a great introduction to editing and organizing your photos.

Olympus Viewer is actually pretty good RAW converter and when shooting RAW you can do a lot of the stuff in the computer that when shooting JPEG can only be done in the camera.  Stuff like the different art filters.

Now to get even more serious then Adobe Lightroom is a very good choice for RAW converting and organizing.  It even has some basic editing.  Plus it can take add-in programs like NIK Suite, OnOne Perfect Suite, Photomatrix or even Photoshop itself.
