The video is misleading. It doesn't address distance. He's shooting head shots, which you wouldn't shoot with a 35mm or 50mm.

I think it's common sense and doesn't really need to be addressed.

Longer lens = stand further back
Wider lens = stand closer

If a person wants a certain amount of their subject in the frame, then depending which focal length they use, they'll have to move back or forward.

And a person might want to shoot headshots with a wide lens if that's the effect they're going for or if that's the only lens they have. The video I posted should give the OP a good idea of the distortion various lengths have on the face and which lengths the OP would prefer.
