It can output full 14MP resolution at 80fps and is capable of shooting 1080p at 120 fps and 4k video at 60 fps. If the still IQ is anything like the video quality, it just may make G1X2 obsolete before it even hits the shelves

Canon says that G1X II uses a new sensor. Here are a couple examples:

"Canon says the G1 X Mark II is based around a new sensor, though it's always hard to tell exactly how much has actually been re-engineered"

"At the heart of the Canon G1 X Mk II is what Canon describes as a new, self-created CMOS image sensor. It's still described a 1.5-inch type chip, but it has a lesser surface area than that in the original G1 X."

IF Canon can increase it lowly DxO score of only 60 and come closer to the RX1, I will believe it.

If it stay basically the same, I guess all the above is just the usual marketing hype you get from any manufacturer just before a new camera release. Since I currently own and use a G12 and like Canon, I sure hope you (and they) are correct and the G1X2 has outstanding IQ. Right now, the only two cameras I can considering is the G1X2 or the P8000. I do plan to get one of the two, which ever meets my requirements best after they have been reviewed and I can compare both, we shall all see soon.

PS, I'm not directly comparing the G1X with the RX1, just showing how far Canon has to go to catch up with its competition in sensor technology. Lately, I have not seen any major sensor developments or improvements from Canon.
