Birds, what am I doing wrong? A99 w/ 70-400

Well having used this lens twice and been on bird shooting about the same amount, I don't expect to get pro quality pictures right away.

But my pictures doesn't seem the sharpest and I am not sure how to improve it. I am guessing I need to work on focusing or am I over cropping and the pixel peeping too much? Or do i need to work more in PP? Higher aperture (didn't think I needed it)?

Don't think motion blur and camera shake was too much a problem with the higher shutter speeds.

Anyway here are some pics (most PP I have done is cropping and very tiny changes in rare cases). I can also post 100% pics and/or direct camera jpgs if that would help.

My second BIF, just happy I got one. I originally cropped this and then uncropped it lol. Cropped version looked, well less than perfect

There were a few

Egytian Goose.

All gosling are cropped, I know what you are thinking, why not get closer with a 50mm. Well I tried and lets just leave it at that... (some parents just don't like thier children modelling)
