I've just updated my K-5 II with the new FW 1.07 (actually its FW vers. (see in EXIF of a shot) without problems.

AFAIK (resp AFAI think):

  1. FW file name is always the same for the same camera model (for all FW versions)
  2. Pentax somehow manages to keep the checksum of the FW files constant and checks this before the cam accepts an update (to prevent corruption etc.)
  3. You can't go back to older FW versions using the official procedure (it can hardly be done in an other way)
  4. Version no v.nn.ii.jj is set up of: v.nn = release no; ii = Pentax internal  FW version/ main chanfges; jj = counter for minor changes (I think)
