Re: Sony 16-50 2.8 vs Sigma 17-70 "C"

I was making this choice about a year and a half ago (the C version wasn't out)

I went with the Sigma for 3 reasons
it was about $300 cheaper then the Sony
it had extra reach
it has a very close minimum focus distance (it has a macro classification - but it isnt a true macro lens)

If I was making this choice now I would go with the Sony as the constant aperture (in my opinion) out weighs the other advantages that my Sigma has.

I still really like the Sigma (and the C version is supposed to be a bit better too) - it is on my camera most of the time.

The only thing that is a real advantage for the C version is the potential to fine tune the focus with the dock (when it gets released) as the A57 doesnt have micro focus adjust in camera

Only you can evaluate your needs and which lens will suit you best
