The question should be "What's the big deal with the modern thing?"

OK, we have to accept advances in technology. But cameras are simple things, basically a lightproof box with a hole in one end that can be be focused by a lens, so any advance on that has to have a real advantage.  Look at a lot of modern camera and you have to wonder, why go beyond the basic box? Most of it is marketing aimed at making money out of suckers. Some of it really does help, but you have to sort the wheat from the chaff.  When it comes to taking photographs, the "retro thing", whatever that is, still works, even if you prefer your $5000 alternative.
