X-T1 - Surfing Shots

A couple from this morning off Oceanside CA - we had a strong swell with 8-10ft sets (max)

These were shot from the pier, looking down, and into the sun, so the lighting was not ideal - there was some fog however to tame the glare a little.

Setup was 55-200mm Lens at 200mm - C focus - 8fps - ISO AUTO - Shutter speed fixed at 1/1000 - Aperture set to f/8

RAW files PP using ACR and NIK

Frames cropped full width to 16:9

AF tracking did it's thing - tracking an erratically moving target with OIS and 8fps in the EVF was a new experience - definitely not as fluid as an OVF.

However, I was able to keep the subject in frame, and under the AF box, and the camera did the rest.

I'll shoot some more when the light is better (i.e. not shooting straight into sun).

My usual rig for surfing is a Canon 1 series with the 600 f/4L and sometimes the 2x extender as well.

1200mm can get you right into the middle of the action, from the beach (at a price!)

The Fuji with some long glass would be awesome, but I suspect it'll be a while as it's all rather specialist stuff, high prices and not high volume.

Either way, a promising first outing.
