Nice shots. I never really considered this lens until now looking at your images.. I'm wondering if $400 is a good price for a used copy that looks like new. My co-worker tried to sell me one last week and I told him that I need to think about.

I've been using the 28-300 for two years on my D800E. I love it.

At first I was afraid of this lens, because some reviewers dismissed it as just a walkaround, not good for "real" photos, has this and that flaw, etc. Then I heard Scott Kelby rave about it on his travel tutorial, he says it's all he uses for traveling (that's in his pre-Canon days.) Bob Krist loves it too, and Trey Ratcliff as do others. Check a few reviews:

Sure, the holy trinity outperform this lens, but it can be hard to tell, after a bit of skillful PP.  And it's just one lens.  Grab it and go.  For demanding situations, you can use a finer lens.

Look at Fletch's photos above, and some of the linked examples.  The 28-300 in capable and creative hands (like Fletch's, who was kind enough to share his shots), is hard to beat.

Buy it.  You won't regret it.
