More pixels?

I agree

The vast majority of images are never printed. Most people don't own computers with enough resolution to display a D2H shot. So, we have lots of wasted pixels already. The few people who actually print large often fool themselves into thinking they need 300 or more pixels per inch, when they can't see that detail if they actually look at the whole image (not looking one inch at a time).

All that is left is marketing. They feel they HAVE to have the highest pixel count in a DSLR. Therefore they will buy it. But those people are getting fewer and fewer with each jump in pixels.

The rest is more about marketing than anything else.

To answer your question expect the MP race to go on for nothing else than marketing reasons.
