the fuji XT-1 on the other hand, very similar to the OMD, would produce less noise but the lenses i imagine will be bigger..

What you need to understand is that lens size is often determined by total light passed for a given FOV. For the same amount of total light passed at a given FOV, lens sizes is pretty much constant for all formats. Why is this important? because regardless format, where light level is limited, IQ is determined by total light fallen on sensor.

For example, 24-85 F5.6 on FF, 17-55 F3.7 on APS-C, 12-42 F2.8 on m43 should all be about roughly the same size. Take a look the size of Nikon 24-85 F3.5-4.5 vs Fuji 18-50/2.8-4.0 vs Olympus 12-40 F2.8, very similar. (the nikon is bigger but it passes a lot more light than the other two. it is F3.5-4.5 instead F5.6).

What you may want to keep in mind is that the smaller the format, the larger the F ratio has to be, and the more expensive the lens gets. The nikon here is 499, the Fuji is 699, and the Oly is 999. If Nikon made a 9-31/2.0 for its 1 system, it will be at the least 1500.
