Yes. I tend to agree that anyone who accepts pay for a job is doing so in a professional capacity. An amateur does not generally get paid.

However, there are exceptions on both sides and any definition has to be seen in its context.

agreed but maybe what is really wanted in this discussion is a different term other than professional however I cannot think of one.
