Most magnets today easily measure 2,000 or 15,000 Gauss. Neos routinely measure over 10,000.

That can magnetize internal and external parts of cameras, which have elements that need to move freely and fast, like shutter parts that move at 1/4000 th of a second.

You can magnetize your camera and ruin its performance.

While it is true that the field away from a magnet decreases quickly with distance, it is also true that hundreds of internal camera parts can end up located near the magnetic snaps.
