Re: Is it crazy to consider leaving my D800 at home while I travel

Since moving into a m43 system, I have routinely left my larger rig (first D300, then D800e) at home when traveling.

In 2012, I traveled to Europe with a Panasonic GX1, P7-14, P20, and a tripod. In 2013, I brought an OM-D E-M5, P12-35, P20, O75, and a tripod to Kauai - more than enough.  In both cases, I was very pleased with the images (including a large metallic print hanging on my living room wall), and the kit was amazingly compact and light.

Most recently, I've been traveling with just a Ricoh GR and have been getting wonderful results, including prints up to 16x20.  It's been liberating.

One more advantage of m43 (or Ricoh GR) over the D800e: much smaller file sizes means reviewing and processing photos on the fly (e.g., at night in the hotel) is quicker and easier.
