I meant that it is your loss for not understanding the advantages of higher resolution. The fact that you personally don't see any reason for using more than 8 MP doesn't mean that there isn't a very good reason.

There is more to it than just printing large although that is one benefit. Post processing at high res and then down sampling gives better results than processing at say 8 MP. As an example let's say you are straightening the horizon on a shot. When that processing is done there is interpolation between the pixels. If you use high res, say 24 MP, then there is less guess work so to speak, done by the programme. The end result is cleaner, even after down sampling. This is true for any post processing. Someone else mentioned this is this same thread.

There is no noise or DR penalty from higher res. This is a very common misunderstanding. Low DR and noise attributed to high MP are usually due to sensor size.
