Re: Experimental work on EX2F shot

Still love the EX2F although it is getting a bit long in the tooth now. I bought a Sony RX100 for my bro for Christmas and the resolution and low light IQ blow the EX2F out of the water, And that is saying something in view of how good the lens on the EX2F is.
The EX2F looks pretty awesome, f/1.4, and that button layout looks fantastic. Oh, and it has my favorite kind of screen, tilty and flippy! It's basically a near perfect point and shoot design that could probably get away with updating only the sensor to bring it back in competition with more recent models. Maybe also a small increase in shutter speed, but what's that I see about an included ND filter, is this internal to the camera? If so, then it partially makes up for the shutter speed and is better in some ways than a faster speed. If I was willing to get something without interchangeable lenses the last time I was camera shopping then the EX2F would have been a serious contender.
Indeed, it is a great camera. The biggest problem is Samsung! There is a HUGE bug in the firmware, namely, the Smart Filters stop working after specific features (or a feature), and the only way to get them to work again is a full reset, and even then, it doesn't always work. Smart Filters allow Sepia, Monchrome etc. No end of world, but I prefer to in camera select monochrome than do it in post. That way, I feel like the image is more unique and original, and I cannot 'cheat' and simply revert back to the original. (Like the old days with B&W film, if you're 'young' enough to recall those days!)
After owning various superior and inferior cameras over the years, here is what the EX2F should offer, other than an RX100 beating sensor:
- 50/60p video (the audio quality is superb BTW, better than my Panasonic GH2, which is saying something!)
- Replace the awful front dial with a NX20 style thumbwheel
- Touch screen for touch to focus (not vital)
- Improved WiFi features, most don't work for me.
- Mic input (a compact pro level video camera is much called for!)
- Pentax MX-1 type handling (I love Pentax and feel all there mid to high end cameras, compact and DSLR) offer the best handling of any brand (Samsung NX20 is pretty good too). Try an MX-1 and you'll see what I mean. I wanted one, but they are hard to get on the high street.
I'll try it if I see one.
- A few other things I have forgotten at present.
Hoping Samsung launch a successor! NX30 etc seem great, but not pocketable.
NX300 is pretty pocketable with the 30mm f/2 lens. Not quite enough for jean pockets though, but for hoodie pockets, coat pockets, etc.. it is very easy to take with me all the time.
No flippy forward display if I recall?
Quite right, and I miss it, having previously been using an SX10IS as my main camera. They did come up with an interesting self shot method though. There is a focus mode for it you can choose, and what is does is track faces and beep differently for if the faces are, out of frame, in frame, and in the center of the frame. It was really quite inventive of them, but isn't really a substitute for being able to see while framing the shot. The NX300M screen flips in a way that lets you see it, but it has remained quite a bit pricier and I think you mostly would need to get it grey market if you don't live in certain regions. Maybe the NX30 also works in a coat pocket, if you see Viking's recent thread with all the shots of the NX30, it's a lot smaller than it's initial impression gave me, but maybe just a little bit too big for it.
