the same happened to me, the new one has had a few lock-ups so far but nothing like the original so I'm reasonably happy (will obviously be much happier when Olympus come up with an explanation and a solution to what ever is causing the problem though)

So much to learn, so little time left to do it!

Why should there be ANY lock ups at all on a camera targeted for pros?

Please enlighten me.

that's my question too

That's an unbelievably daft question. No product can possibly be 100% reliable. Even the certification process for e.g. aircraft safety does not guarantee that we have zero fatal accidents traceable to product failure. It's safe to say that cameras, pro or not, sit many levels lower than aircraft in terms of reliability requirements.

However, if the lock-up issue turns out to be a pattern, obviously they will eventually address it. And replacing and keeping the faulty units for testing at some leisure would help this process.
