Re: Binocular Suggestions

The new thing seems to be image stabilization but that may not be as good better glass?

Count me among the fans of image stabilization. I have a pair of Canon 10x30 IS binos and I absolutely love them. I use them for birding, astronomy, and general use. With the press of a button, my view is rock solid, as if the binos were mounted on a tripod. I can make out far more detail with a stable image than I could without the image stabilization, like the moons of Jupiter or a Bewick Wren's eye ring. I've seen better glass, but the optics in these Canon IS binos are excellent and the stabilization, to me, is worth the sacrifice of a tiny bit of lens quality. I strongly recommend you find a pair and try them out. I'd never go back to non-stabilized binos.
