That analysis relates to use by press photographers, not the man and woman in the street.

In America it is a small percentage, and it is in decline

According to CIPA data for 2013 (which excludes non-Japanese companies such as Samsung):

Shipments of MILCs to the Americas were only 54.7% of 2012 shipments.

Shipments of SLRs to the Americas were 89.1% of 2012 shipments.

Not good news for either format, but much worse for mirrorless.

A somewhat different picture appears when framed in terms of decrease in the value of shipments.  The decrease in the value of shipments of SLRs to the Americas (17 billion Yen) decreased by 2.4 times as much as the decrease in value of shipments of mirrorless cameras (7 billion Yen).  While highlighting the dominance of SLRs, it also underscores the fact that, in the Americas, Japanese companies were hurt more by the decline in demand for SLRs than they were by the decline in demand for MILCs.
