Incorrect - the signal is not 'boosted', it is averaged. The binning (VPS) is done on-chip. For example, 2x2 pixel outputs are summed together (as in joined) - but so are the capacitances.Thus, although the binned 'super-pixel' captures 4X as many electrons, those electrons now charge 4X the capacitance. That means that the sensor gain is not changed, remaining at 7.14uv/electron (on my SD9).
