Nowadays there are so many different sensor sizes, but unfortunately the macro properties of cameras are still specified as shortest distance in macro mode. I own a S90/95 and a G1 X but I would very appriciate if someone can indicate in inch/centimeters what the smallest size of area would be for G1 X Mark II in macro mode.

However, 5 cm shortest distance seems to be very promising in regard to the relative big sensor. Could that be better than the Sony RX 100?

G1X Mk1 Macro = 8 inches. You can't get any closer to the subject than 8 inches, even with the Canon 250D/500D closeup filters.

That's incorrect, using the Canon 500D close-up filter at 28mm I can get focus at 5 inches (12.7cm) and using the Siocore UWA converter I can get focus at 3 inches (7.6cm), I measured both with a ruler.

.

G1X M2 Macro = 1.97 inches. (let's say 2 inches)
Macro of the s95 is also 5cm (1.97 inches), so it's the same as your s95.
