Add a 50mm prime to the mix? D600

I am looking for some input on lenses.  I have a 24-70 2.8 and a 70-200 2.8.  I'm thinking about trying a prime, mostly to lighten up the kit for general (vs. event occasion) use, especially indoors, or for walkabout.  The 50mm 1.8g is $200, relatively inexpensive, and I figure there's little financial risk here if I sell it.

Would that give me a useful experience using a prime?  Or, as someone said, it's a "boring" focal length, and why bother as it's only marginally better/faster than the 24-70?

I shoot people, events, social stuff, nature, interesting lighting and city scenes (not so much landscapes or macro) and am tempted by the 1.8g for doing more low light / night work for fun.

Any suggestions on how to think about this?

(And yes, I'm considering adding/switch to MFT if you happened to see my other post about lens combos in that forum. I'm generally confused about my gear strategy….)
