RX100 ii images subpar when compared to RX100

I recently purchased RX100 II after test driving my friends RX100 camera. I compared the camera side by side and see below issues

1) LCD screen on RX100 II not as crisp/bright as RX100 (Settings were the same)

2) Last night I took indoor picture of my living room. RX100 II produced 1/30, 1.8F and 500 ISO. Same place same picture, RX100 produced the image at 1/30, 1.8F and 400 ISO. RX100 image was brighter and crisper than RX100 II.

I'm baffled by this. I thought the RX100 II was an obvious improvement over RX100 but the images that I got last night proved otherwise. Even Canon S120 produced better images than my RX100 II.

Any thoughts? Did i get a faulty camera?

Many thanks!
