The 20-50mm lens is a piece of s hit for low light!!

It's the same f numbers as what comes with the G5, so what did you expect, magic?

...and great in good light, because of it's optical quality...

...and great for travel, because of it's compact size and lightweight.

For the price you pay for, it can be considered, a steal...

...so, at least one weakness is to expect - no?

The lcd becomes so dim indoors with that particular lens that it's difficult to compose indoors, G5 lcd was also better and it used to brighten up the lcd

You know the camera menu 2 and the framing mode setting?

You know the settings menu 2 and the display adjust settings?

With a minolta 50mm f1.4 is easier to shoot so this camera with kit lens is really bad for indoors, i can't afford any primes right now so missing my G5 dearly

Umm... just get a cheap adapter and use the Minolta if you've got it, duh. Or if you're partial to manual focus (you brought up the Minolta...), it's not quite as bright, but an FD adapter + Canon FD f/1.8 runs < $50 for both, shipped and all (depending on how bad shipping rates to your location are). Or FD f/1.4 lens are ~$100 typically.

The 45 mm f1.8 (2D) is less expensive than many zoom lenses are...

and don't forget the 30mm clocks in at 219 right now from B&H. ^_^

...and why did you sold your G5?

Display brightness doesn't help

Framing mode is not the same as display brightness.

Sold my G5 as i thought bigger sensors will give more DOF

they do, but probably not for the reasons you think they do

and still better low light results

they often can, but it's much more complicated than that

but cameras work as good as their lenses rather than sensors

No, both the sensor and lens are heavily involved, the differences in lenses are probably just more obvious to you. NX has very decent selection of lenses, lacking most sorely in long telephoto and pro zooms, though the new lens makes some headway in that. In my opinion m4/3 has more options, but not better options.

plus G5 was bigger than NX1000

...and what's the takeaway from that supposed to be?...

Am a newbie so learning the really hard way and with losses financially

After a post like this I'm tempted to say something along the lines of "shutup and listen," or rather, read What I mean is, there is a ton of information on this forum if you listen to the right people... you can really learn a lot very fast. I'm not going to tell you that though, because there like any forum, there are also a lot of idiots that think they know what they're talking about when they haven't got a clue (e.g. the idiot that started this thread: http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/52964434). Now, if you can discern who is worth listening to, then do some listening. If not then ask useful questions instead of just brazenly stating the obvious as if you've been tricked. e.g. an f/3.5-f/5.6 lens isn't magical indoors, instead of whining about that and saying how much better the f/1.4 lens is (umm.... were you using that on the G5?) why don't you instead ask about 1)fast & cheap lens options for the NX mount or 2) how to make the most of your kit lens or even 3) how to handle low light shooting in general. All three of which are things that other newbies here did see as suitable things to ask about and you should probably just read those threads.

Finally... why did you get rid of a G5 for the NX1000? The NX1000 is better in my opinion, but not enough to jump ship without researching first, especially if you were invested into m4/3 lenses. If you had done even cursory research I think you would have seen that the AF/shutter response is on the slow side for the NX1000:

http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/samsung-nx1000/samsung-nx1000A6.HTM

So, my final advice to you as a newbie is to not spend any more (significant, maybe an adapter, a cheap flash, spare battery, extension tubes, maybe even one or two of the cheaper lenses, but nothing major) money for a while. Build your skills by making the limited gear you have work despite the shortcomings, then when you do eventually move to better gear you'll actually have the skills to have made it worth buying.

If you want more detailed explanations on the above, then if you ask politely I can point you to some research papers or other good resources. Also, the page on equivalence that came up in the thread with the idiot is very useful.

I also see you're trying to purchase a 50-200, I would say to just get it off e-bay or the like, I don't think anyone is willing to part with it for under market price anytime soon, but I could be wrong, gl with it. I'm for sure keeping mine ^_^. You might have a better chance of getting a response if you indicate roughly what you're willing to pay, but it's just a maybe.

I know I haven't been nice, but you were stepping on some toes there.  I hope that I have been informative and hopefully not too heavy on the sarcasm.  ^_^

Hahaha i am not at all worried about the sarcasm as this is not real world or my profession , am happy to do lot of listening since you are giving detailed explanations.

Am just telling G5 is a better camera for a beginner on LOW BUDGET

I sold G5 as i had not a single pie left for investing in lenses and kit lens in G5 was same aperture but still super bright, Just try it if you have access.. .

After selling i got a used nx1000 with a minolta f1.4 and a tripod and a canon fd adapter for exact same price so i thought its a super deal

I researched on DXOMARK and they said NX1000 sensor was as good as Nex5r and better than G5

I am still ok with AF being slow but it is not able to focus in avg light forget even low light, it keeps on hunting, G5 was like a rocket speed in candle light too!!

Then again am from india where there are not many used camera offers so out of the limited offers i thought nx1000 would be good for me!!

Used Pl5 and Nex5r were simply out of my budget!!

So if the OP gets a G5 at around same price go for that eyes closed

Ya one more advantage of NX1000 for me was it's smaller which tempted me into this model, hope you understand now

G5:
Viewfinder

Superb tilting touchscreen which is much clearer than Samsung though both have same resolution

Awesome focus speeds

Superb jpeg engine OOB

Much much better auto mode, than this Samsung smart mode!!

Better selection of lenses!!

And many more

NX1000:

Smaller and lighter

Wifi

nothing else in comparison

I may be wrong but you are not 100pc correct

If OP is getting nx1000 way cheaper than G5 then it's ok if not then stay away
