My primary reason is the size. The 12-40 (comparatively) is a HUGE lens and makes the EM-1 feel DSLR like. (and yes I know that the EM-1 + 12-40 is lighter than the Canon 24-70 :-D).

The 45 is absolutely small and all of my street shooting happens at the longer end anyways. Em-1 + the 45 is tiny and light weight combo.

IQ wise the 12-40 is fantastic. Honestly i don't notice too much of a difference. I like the colors from the 12-40 a bit more. But the difference is small enough that Aperture (the software) easily makes up for it. Also for certain scenarios the 1.8 shutter speed is indispensable. lets me shoot at a lower ISO.

Depth of field theres a slight difference. But the fact that they 45 is a bit longer (and requires a slightly different framing) negates the DOF advantage/disadvantage.
