Action shots help

I'm taking action shots of children running around with a Sony a77+SAL85F14 lens. The autofocus system has a hard time keeping up. I haven't tweaked settings very much. I am shooting in relatively well-lit indoors.

I wanted advice as to whether:

  1. Am I doing something wrong? What setting should I be using?
  2. It this an equipment issue (the SAL85F14 is a screw drive lens, although in my experience, the SAL70200G focused slower than the SAL85F14).
  3. Is this a lighting issue?

I am betting on #1.

I could probably figure this out myself as well, given a little bit of experimentation, but I'm in the midst of travels, and a little bit time-constrained. There was a short window this morning when AF didn't keep up, and I'll have maybe one or two more short windows to get a good shot.

This question has not been answered yet.
