Absolutely agree

People looking into buying an entry level DSLR with kit zoom will be interested in the camera, as a smaller alternative offering similar quality.

People who already have a DSLR will buy this as an all-in-one travel or take everywhere camera.

It may be a niche market, but it is a very serious one.

This might be the ideal high quality camera for hikers, backpackers, bikers and ANYONE who wants a high quality camera without the muss and fuss of changing lenses or carrying around a camera bag.

Like you say, it may not be for everyone, but it will be a perfect choice for someone.

And this is pretty much where the entire camera market is going. It will soon be nothing more than a collection of small market niches, with no one particular camera type for everyone. No real dominant type of camera.

You hear an awful lot about convergence, but the opposite is generally true. When products mature they diverge into multiple categories.

  • We started out with 3 TV channels, now we have 300
  • We started out with 1 kind of car design, now we have dozens of types
  • We were happy with one kind of Coca-Cola, now we have sixteen varieties
