I have the luxury of shooting with a variety of cameras. Right now, the two kit lenses that I can truly boast about are the:
Canon 18-55 M zoom that comes with the Canon-M series of mirror-less cameras. It is solid metal, employs a very smooth zooming mechanism and is quite nice optically.
The other is the wonderful Fuji 18-55 f2.8-4 zoom - perhaps the finest of it's type on the market. Fuji refers to it as a kit lens, but it is far above that - it is superb optically and very smooth to zoom. In addition, it's built-in IS system works superbly - the best of the bunch.
You have tests to back this up?
The Samsung 18-55 is just average, IMO. Compared to the above two lenses, it is mediocre at best. My copy has a rough feel to it when zooming, making it awkward for me to us.
Sounds like you have some issues with that lens. Mine is quite smooth and excellent, optically.
I can't wait until the new Samsung 16-50 f2.8 is released - that's for sure. Although the 18-55 is alright optically, there are better to be found. For me, it is the limiting factor on my NX300.
What stock kit lenses are better that cost the same? Just curious.
Hi PP,
For the record you are responding to Ben and not me, these are not my words.
If a poster asserts: "The other is the wonderful Fuji 18-55 f2.8-4 zoom", why would he continue to use so many other non-wonderful lenses?
