Is it bad if a lens has paint chipped off?

Im about to buy a used nikon 70-200. everything is fine except for the lens having chipped off paint. Is this bad, or does it mean anything? What kind of senarios would make the lens paint chip off, and will this lead to other damages?

Heres an example
