Really nice shots. Both of them.
With my SX30, automatic light balance often yields a washed-result on overcast days, so I set the light balance manually to "overcast" and the exposure to -2/3 of a stop. That helps a lot but I don't know if the SX50 behaves the same way. It may be better with its CMOS sensor. (The SX30 has CCD.)
You and a few other people in this forum do a wonderful job of photographing birds. I'm jealous. You must have a lot of patience.
