You may be right, but...

Since it seems the E-M5 will remain current for at least another 6 months, it is shameful that the E-M10 has this feature, given that its target market is less likely to use MySets than users of the E-M5.

Let's hope 2.1 is in the works...

My guess is no way it would happen.

Olympus, after all, is in business to sell cameras, so if you want the rather excellent MySets to Mode dial feature then you buy the camera that has that feature (E-PL5, E-PL6, E-P5, E-M1, E-M10).

The E-M5 is now 2 years old (announced 8 Feb 2012) so is truly past tense in digital camera land.

I can see a rationale like this:

The OM-D represents Oly's enthusiast to pro product line, where these users can and should expect more than retail-level support from Olympus. These users will appreciate their cameras being keep current where it is possible, and will buy new models when significant new features come along, but may also keep the old model as a backup. Knowing that Oly will still offer some level of support beyond two years for that old model goes a long way to creating security for these users who may have invested a lot in the MFT system.

I wonder how many of the crowd who invested in the FT system Oly lost during the long wait for the OM-D, and then discovered most of their fancy FT glass doesn't focus worth a damn on the OM-D? But the OM-D appears to have been very successful, and has presumably garnered some new Oly users, so Oly should do what it takes to keep them. Keeping a customer is a whole lot easier than finding a new one.

I have spent my career working with I.T. enterprise level products with outstanding service, to the point that I will not even consider companies that fail to live up to this standard. I can get 24x7x365 support on a wide range of products that are sometimes more than 10 years old. I can and have called Cisco, APC, Dell and others and received support (often at no cost) for their products long past the warranty period. (yes, there is computer gear that isn't garbage after 3 years...) These companies provide this because they know how hard it is to win a customer back if they lose them.

I have no idea if this level of support exists in the camera world (I suspect it does), but if I were a Pro with tens of thousands invested in a system, I would be looking for a company that supports me in the long run.

Just my 2 cents.
