The ability to 'see' the shot is more important than the gear used to capture it.

This Nikon App may help you sort out the angle of view question. Use the DX setting.

I have both lenses and they are excellent.

The 14mm can challenge, though not beat, the Zeiss 21 on FF imo.

f1.4 is great on the 23 and I know you know enough to weigh the differences between that, the f2.8 on the 14 and the new f4 zoom.
