As mentioned above, these are both wonderful lenses with few peers in their respective focal lengths. I think it comes down to 2 requirements:

1) Focal length - In particular, as a landscaper I couldn't live without the 14. However, if you do little landscapes or architecture, the 23 is a great general purpose focal length.

2) Max Aperture - If you require a very fast aperture for low light work or "high bokeh" shots, the 23 is the obvious choice.

IMHO, the only rational decision is to purchase both, as I have, and I use both a great deal.
