Re: Sony is in a world of hurt! The Sony today is not your fathers Sony

Sony likes the skim market. They bring new technology into the market at premium prices, and exit when the product becomes a commodity. I bought a Beta HiFi recorder from them at $1200. When that product (tape video recorders) died, you could get the same thing for $50. They like selling BluRay players at $500, but not so much when they are $50. The same will likely come with the cameras. Again they like selling the RX100 at $700 and RX10 at $1100, but not so much when they become commodities. PC's have long been commodities, and that is why they are a much better value than the overpriced Apple products. It is amazing Sony stuck with it so long.

Sony will only survive if they can keep bringing new technology to the market that the consumer will pay high prices for.
