Not sure it's related, but Usee mentioned over in the announcement comments that red will hit diffraction limit faster than blue, so you may not lose much/any color resolution in a real life scenario compared to a Merrill sensor.

Not only that. Depth from the focus plane and noise decrease the resolution too.


and therefore I'm confident, that we won't lose, but win with the new design.



I applaud you, for mentioning the option to overlap the lower layers...

...something one should really consider - at least in a prototype.



...did I mention, that one should try to apply the UV-IR filter within the sensor plane,

to avoid those ugly red grid and to gain some light - at least if it is glued like lens?

(This would also reduce the noise a little bit, due to better heat dissipation and higher light throughput.)
